Presented by Food+City (formerly known as the Food Lab at UT)
The Food+City Challenge Prize Showcase Day is the finale of the Food+City Challenge Prize, a competition among business start-ups encouraging innovative ideas to improve the urban food system.
More than 20 finalists from across the world will convene in Austin in February to compete for up to $50,000 and assorted startup business benefits. After 12 weeks of working with a specially-paired industry mentor, each team will present its business idea before a panel of judges and attendees.
Everyone is encouraged to vote in the People’s Choice Award for their favorite new food business finalist – see Facebook the week prior to Showcase Day. Food and drink samples from local businesses such as 512 Brewery, Tiff’s Treats and Snap Kitchen will be on hand.
Top 10 finalists will present fast pitches around 2:00 p.m.
Free and open to the public.
RSVP through Eventbrite.
About Food+City
Food+City grew out of The Food Lab at The University of Texas at Austin and is directed by Dr. Robyn Metcalfe. Based in Austin, Texas, Food+City is a multi-media platform for bold exploration of the global food system; it provokes fresh perspectives on the realities of how we feed cities, inspiring and fostering action. Food+City stories, told in many forms, will raise awareness of the opportunities for improvement in our food systems and uncover the insights that will shape how we make our world sustainable. Our mission is manifested through Food+City magazine (print and digital), events and the annual Food+City Challenge Prize, a startup competiton focused on logisical challenges and opportunities.
