Nutrition affects all our lives, every single day, and it is well established that nutritional intake is a critical component of both health and of many disease processes. Thus, nutrition research is relevant, translational, and directly meets the mission of the NIH to “seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability.” The primary areas of excellence in transdisciplinary nutrition research represented by the Department of Nutritional Sciences research faculty include:
- Nutrition and Cancer
- Obesity and Metabolism
- Maternal and Child Health
- Community Nutrition and Health
- Nutrigenomics/metabolomics
Nutrition is medicine that can be applied in clinical, behavioral, educational, and research settings. For more information on a specific faculty member's research program, click the link to Faculty Research.
