Just within the past decade, the show has grown greatly in scale and prominence, and the number of people in the audience regularly reaches about 5,000+ per year.
The 2022 show, University Fashion Group Presents: The Capstone Collection, has seen even more changes. The typical title and responsibilities of a show director have been transferred to the UFG student organization, allowing them creative freedom over every aspect of the show, from scouting venues to casting models to creating marketing materials. The organization is composed of a diverse range of students across campus, bringing together a variety of disciplines needed to orchestrate the show.
This year’s Capstone Collection fashion show took place on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Distribution Hall in downtown Austin. The show had a large number of in-person attendees, but it was also live-streamed on UFG’s website for the public to watch.
The UT-Austin student designers presented their capstone collections, showcasing the crowning achievements of their design work. The designers dedicated most of their semesters to creating these collections, utilizing their creativity and skills to bring their ideas to life. The show allowed students to demonstrate their talent and their capabilities. As up-and-coming designers, this also offered the opportunity to engage with a large audience of fashion experts beyond the UT campus.
This year’s designers worked under unique circumstances to each craft a 5-piece collection. Each designer drew upon various sources of inspiration to create, design, and produce collections that showcase their creativity and construction capabilities. When these independently fashioned pieces are integrated, a unified fashion show is born.
