Five UT students win YMA scholarships
YMA fashion scholarship awards—which have been bestowed on the brightest new talent in the fashion industry for the last 80 years—were given to five textiles and apparel undergraduates at a gala in New York City earlier this month.
Representing The University of Texas at Austin, Ariana Funug, Katherine Kykta, Veronica Lozano, Becky X Phung and Hailey Sellars each received a $5,000 scholarship. A total of 229 scholarships were awarded this year.
YMA is a leading international fashion industry group, and the Division of Textiles and Apparel has been affiliated with its network of more than 50 universities and design institutes for the last three years.This year's competition proved to be one of the most intense in YMA history with 569 applicants from 58 member schools. Each case study sent in by students was evaluated independently by two judges.
