UT Austin Family Sciences Program and Mathematics Among Top 10 in World Rankings


The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has ranked the University Texas at Austin among the top 10 universities worldwide in three College of Natural Sciences subjects: Family Studies (#7), Mathematics, Interdisciplinary Applications (#1), and Mathematics, Applied (#5).

The CWUR Rankings by Subject 2017 highlights the world's elite universities in the sciences and the social sciences, based on the number of research articles in top-tier journals. Data is obtained from Clarivate Analytics (previously the Intellectual Property and Science business of Thomson Reuters). More information about the methodology is available here.

Overall, UT Austin ranks 28th globally among institutions with the most top-10 placements, at 18. 

Fifteen other programs at UT Austin are ranked by CWUR among the top 10: Engineering, Petroleum (#2), Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology (#3), Engineering, Multidisciplinary (#3), Geology (#3), Sociology (#4), Communication (#5), Education, Special (#6), Information Science & Library Science (#7), Limnology (#7), Psychology, Educational (#7), Transportation (#8), Business, Finance (#9), Engineering, Aerospace (#9), Acoustics (#10) and Mechanics (#10).

The CWUR, a Saudi Arabia-based organization that provides consultation for governments and universities, has published an academic ranking of global universities since 2012. These are the CWUR's first rankings based on subjects, selected in 227 categories.
