Our mission is to preserve, promote, and improve the health and well-being of populations, communities, and individuals by fostering collaborations among public health and the health professions in education, research, and service.
We are committed to educating and teaching the next generation of public health professionals through innovative instruction and by providing experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for entry-level positions in the field, address workforce shortages, and equip graduates to pursue advanced certificates and graduate degrees.
About Public Health
Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of people and their communities. It focuses on the health of populations rather than individuals and encompasses a wide range of activities aimed at preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, public and private institutions, communities and individuals.
This field includes various disciplines such as epidemiology, biostatistics, health services, social and behavioral sciences, and environmental health. This work is achieved by promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases.
The UT Public Health program offered a lot of flexibility in how I could explore public health as a career field. The program has faculty from a variety of disciplines, and they each helped me build and refine unique and useful skill sets. It was a wonderful program to build practical experience for any job in public health.”
