Sonia K Gonzalez

Sonia K. González, DrPH has had a public health career spanning more than 25 years in the non-profit, philanthropy, higher education, and social impact sectors. She has primarily served young people aged 18 to 25 in NYC and taught in higher education since 2013. Her research has received support from a National Research Service Award, the National Institutes of Mental Health (F31MH099924). Sonia has published her research in peer-reviewed journals, presented findings at conferences and been a TEDx speaker. In 2021, Dr. González joined The University of Texas at Austin, where she is currently an Assistant Professor of Instruction and serves as Director of the Public Health Program.
Sonia works closely with Stephen T. Russell, the Director of the School of Human Ecology, where the public health program is housed.

Stephen Russell is the Priscilla Pond Flawn Regents Professor in Child Development, chair of the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, and Amy Johnson McLaughlin Director of the School of Human Ecology at the University of Texas at Austin. He is an expert in adolescent and young adult health, focusing on sexual orientation and gender identity. He has served on the governing boards of the Society for Research in Child Development, the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS), National Council on Family Relations and the Society for Research on Adolescence (President, 2012-2014).
