Welcome to The University of Texas at Austin, Class of 2025!

The Human Ecology Advising Center staff is excited to welcome you to the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) and the School of Human Ecology (SoHE)!  We look forward to meeting you virtually during UT Orientation.

Our main goal is to assist you with picking out classes for your fall 2021 schedule so that you feel confident when registering on Day 3 of Orientation.

Please review the following information to prepare for academic advising.  You can reach us at headvising@austin.utexas.edu for any questions or concerns related to your academic advising (please include your EID on all emails).

Before Orientation

1.  Watch Pre-Orientation Videos and complete Canvas Modules on the New Student Services Canvas page.  See a full pre-orientation checklist on the New Student Services website.

2.  Complete UT Math Assessment if you haven't already (for first-year students only or transfer students who are taking calculus this fall 2021).

3.  Review the following videos/presentations:

  • CNS Advising videos and handouts.  These are available on the CNS Canvas page and also on the CNS website here.

  • Human Ecology Pre-Advising presentation for your major. Click to download the PowerPoint presentation and play audio on each slide (you shouldn't have to log into the Box website to download).  A transcript of the presentation is also available.  Please email us at headvising@austin.utexas.edu if you experience any issues accessing these:

    - Public Health: presentation with audio, presentation without audio, & script

    - Nutrition: presentation & script

    - Human Development & Family Sciences: presentation & script

    - Textiles & Apparel: presentation & script

Please keep an eye out for emails from "Human Ecology Advising" (headvising@austin.utexas.edu), and add this to your contacts list to avoid future emails from going to spam.

On the Wednesday before your Orientation session, details and Zoom links for your group advising session and an individual academic advising appointment will be emailed to you.  Information about reserved classes included as part of your First-Year Interest Group (FIG) will also be included.

On Day 2 after your individual academic advising appointment, you will receive a follow-up email from your advisor with: summary of classes discussed, additional times for optional drop-in advising and registration assistance with your academic advisor on Day 3

Please plan to review the CNS Advising videos and the Human Ecology presentation at least before your group advising session on Day 1.
