The students in the Nutritional Sciences are engaged and active. Our students, through student organizations, refine their leadership skills while pursuing their intellectual and social interests.

Sanctioned and supported by the Office of the Dean of Students, student organizations are a great way to meet other students with similar interests.

Food Studies is a student initiated project to raise awareness about the importance of understanding food from a interdisciplinary approach. Our vision is the creation of a Food Studies Institute at The University of Texas at Austin to complement a variety of academic disciplines. Faculty member Lydia Steinman is adviser to this group.

School of Human Ecology Ambassadors is a sponsored organization focused on service to the School of Human Ecology by implementing and supporting projects, events, and initiatives designed to serve all students.

Texas Nutrition is a student organization run by students interested in nutrition, wellness, and health. Recently, two student organizations, Nutrition and Wellness Association and Student Dietetics Association, joined forces to form Texas Nutrition. The purpose of our organization is to provide students with opportunities to serve the community, to develop relationships with faculty, to make contacts with other dietetic and nutrition professionals, and to develop relationships with other students interested in nutrition. Diane Papillion andMonica Milonovich serve as faculty advisers to this group.

Texas Public Health is the student organization representing students interested in health education, disease prevention, and the development of a strong public health initiative at the University of Texas at Austin. The interdisciplinary field of public health combines biology, chemistry, medicine, and sociology. At the University of Texas at Austin, the Public Health B.S. degree is broken into 6 concentrations. Texas Public Health is open to all majors interested in public health. We provide information about graduate school, research opportunities around campus, and a vibrant community to explore public health. We hope to raise awareness on public health issues around the globe and foster strong ties of responsibility and dependability to our local Austin community.
