Women's Work Wear Through the 20th Century

The Historical Textiles and Apparel Collection of the School of Human Ecology at the University of Texas at Austin presents their third exhibit of the year.

Opening at 12pm on Tuesday, April 18^th, 2017, Hear Me Roar centers on women's work wear fashions from the 20^th century. From early suffragettes to suits by Christian Lacroix and Yves Saint Laurent, 10 looks will trace the development of the working woman over one hundred years.

Under the direction of Gail Chovan, faculty in the Division of Textiles and Apparel, five independent study students have spent the past few months researching garments, photos and statistics from the past century to enhance the exhibit.

"Strong women: may we know them. May we be them. May we raise them," says Chovan.

Hear Me Roar: 100 years of Working Women's Fashions, 1900-2000 will premiere on Tuesday, April 18^th, 2017 in Room 117 of Mary E. Gearing Hall, and is open daily Monday – Friday, 10am - 5pm, throughout the Spring and Summer months.
