Faculty on Sustainability

Last May, Peggy Blum attended the Copenhagen Fashion Summit where she was selected to deliver a micropresentation on sustainability in learning and teaching at the Educator's Summit. Her presentation focused on a curriculum-based project for TXA 361, the consumer behavior class focusing on community engagement and fashion sustainability.

The Copenhagen Fashion Summit produced its first report, Pulse of the Fashion Industry, an in depth assessment of the apparel and textile industry's environmental and social performance. The report is the first of its kind to ever use data from the Higg Index, the world's leading standard in measuring a company's sustainability performance.

In addition to the report, the Summit introduced the Call to Action for a Circular Fashion System Commitment, which has now been signed by more than 30 companies, including Adidas, ASOS, H&M, Inditex, Eileen Fisher, Kering, Target, and Marks & Spencer.

"As professionals and educators, we need to accelerate the fashion industry's transition to a more circular system by increasing the volume of textiles collected, reused, and recycled by 2020," says Blum.
