Johnny is a pre-candidacy graduate student under the mentorship of Dr. Stefano Tiziani. He earned his B.S. in Biochemistry & Cell Biology from Rice University, with a research focus on human neural development. He also served as an MD Anderson Cancer Prevention Research Training Program (CPRTP) summer trainee, where he contributed to nutritional epidemiology research on the human microbiome. Drawing on these experiences, he is interested in using metabolomic and metabolic flux approaches to better understand aberrant metabolism in human disease.

I am interested in using metabolomics and metabolic flux analysis to better understand how cancer cells generate energy, build macromolecules, and maintain redox balance to grow and avoid destruction, with consideration for context-specific metabolic states. In doing so, I hope to discover metabolic vulnerabilities that may lead to new treatments.
