Rachelle Johnsson Chiang 18 years' experience working at the intersection of public health and education. Her experience includes work on child and adolescent health, chronic disease prevention, health and education policy at the local, state, and national levels, social determinants of health and education, and mental health and  substance abuse, including opioids. Prior to joining UT-Austin, Rachelle most recently served as the director of a national school health initiative at the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD), funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In this role, she oversaw program planning and evaluation, policy research, technical assistance to states and local communities, and publication development and dissemination. In addition to NACDD, Rachelle has worked for the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, Prevent Cancer Foundation, National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE), and served as a consultant to various state and national organizations. Rachelle is fluent in Spanish, a former Peace Corps Volunteer, and has a passion for reducing health and education disparities, particularly as it relates to Hispanic children.
