Nutrition Research Retreat: Showcasing Faculty and Student Research 

The Department of Nutritional Sciences sponsors an annual Nutrition Research Retreat to showcase innovative research by faculty members, graduate students, and honors nutrition students.  The event is planned and hosted by the Nutrition Graduate Student Association (NGSA) each year and is held prior to the start of the Fall semester in Mary Gearing Hall.  Click the Nutritional Sciences Research Retreat Abstract Booklet and Program from 2017 below for detail on all abstracts presented and the organization of the retreat.  For questions related to the event, please contact the NGSA President.

Faculty research in the Department of Nutritional Sciences focuses on 1) understanding how nutrients and genetics interact to affect diseases like cancer, obesity, and birth defects; 2) elucidating the role of nutrition in child and maternal health; 3) examining the role of community gardens in influencing both child and family health and physical activity; and 4) dissecting the medicinal properties of specific nutrients and their affect on cell growth.
